Who r We?

Reach is the student ministry of Fossil Creek Community Church in Fort Worth, TX. Because we are a student ministry, don't get the wrong idea... that we think that you have to look or act a certain way before you come or if you show up, that we'll be total jerks and won't even say 'hi' to you. That's not the way we roll. That's all DRAMA... and usually, you have enough of that going on already (besides, we don't like drama - www.dramastoppers.com).

So, we have a reputation. When you think about it, don't we ALL? Webster's defines reputation as being known by other people for some characteristic or ability. We're all known for something. Maybe you're the smart kid or the band nerd or the dude who always gets in trouble or even the stud athlete who gets to pick where you're going for college.

Reputation: known by other people for some characteristic or ability

People in the Bible had a reputation. Mark 5:1-20 tells us about a man who called himself Legion. Why? Because when Jesus asked him his name, he said that he had a whole lot of demons inside of him. Wow! Jesus was face to face with a man who lived in a graveyard, would scream and cut himself with stones, and was strong enough to break chains around his hands and feet. Crazy, Loco? No, demon-possessed.

The cool thing is that Jesus knew about this man. He had heard about Legion... to stay as far away from him as he could! In spite of the man's reputation, Jesus still went to him... and healed him. He didn't care what the man had done, what he was doing, or what he had been into. All he cared about was reaching this man at the point in his life where he was... and being his friend.

That's what we want... that's who we are. We don't care what you've DONE, what you're DOING, or what you've BEEN INTO. All we care about is meeting YOU at the point in YOUR life where YOU ARE... and being your friend.

Who r U?

Identity: the distinguishing character or personality of an individual

Everyone is looking for their own IDENTITY. Maybe you hang out with a certain group at school... the jocks, preps, band nerds, cowboys, or geeks. It's natural. You gravitate to people with common likes and interests. You're trying to find YOUR place... figuring out who you are by hanging out with people that are most like you.

Acceptance: the act of accepting, to receive willingly, to give approval

When it comes down to it, we ALL want to be accepted. Acceptance is a powerful thing. It creates an environment, a PLACE where you ARE received. Think about it for a sec... we ALL want that. We won't act like we know everything about you, because we don't. But we do know that if you're at a place where you feel like you can be YOURSELF, you'll keep going, and going, and going...

Why r U Here?

We also know that in the grand scheme of things, God created you with a purpose and plan for YOUR life. Have you ever wondered why you are here? Like why the creator of the universe, the giver of life, the omniscient (knows everything), omnipresent (is everywhere at the same time), omnipotent (all powerful) God created YOU? Good question. Simple answer.

You are here, right now, so that you can know God... personally (on a one on one, personal name basis). Once you get to know Him, you begin to recognize what He's like, what He isn't like, what He says, what He doesn't say... like you hear His voice inside your head, and your heart. You develop a REAL relationship with Him and His Spirit comes ALIVE inside of you. You begin to CHANGE... and people notice.

People notice? Yup... and that's not all. They begin to say things like, "What's happened to you? You're different." They see a different YOU... and you like who and what you've become. You are here, right now, so that you can know God, and let other people know who He is... to ACCEPT people for who they are, regardless of REPUTATION or IDENTITY. That's why you're here... to make a difference, to REACH.
